Ford Friction Space Car, Reproduction Limited Edition #4 of 6 –
This listing is for a reproduction of an extremely rare variation of an HTC Japan friction car. I have only seen two of these rare toys in original condition; one many years ago in SILVER body color that sold on eBay and another in OLIVE DRAB body color that is in a private collection here in California. When researching this toy, information on the silver car can be found on the Danefield/Alphadrome website under Space Vehicle category. The following is how the images are described on the site:
FORD FRICTION SPACE CAR – HTC – JAPAN
Large silver two door convertible tinplate Ford car with a robot driver and passenger in the rear seat. 12 ins. There is a space themed TV monitor with a rocket scene in the other rear seat. Friction action with siren. Name? Box? Tentatively “The Friction Robot Car (E.T.Toys, Japan, 1958)”.
I was completely hooked on the original silver toy when it was on eBay many years ago. Absolutely classic theme and look. I believe the auction ended upwards of $7500.00 and it was missing the antenna. I saved all of the fabulous pictures from that auction with the intention of recreating the look in the future.
Over the last several years I have collected the nicest condition original HTC/E.T. Ford Convertibles I could find, in order to recreate a total of SIX Friction Robot Cars, two Aqua, two Orange and two White. Three of the cars are already spoken for. This listing is for Aqua #4 of 6. It is signed, dated and numbered on the bottom.
The cars are 100% original condition. The additional parts added are the TIN 5 point star on the deck lid, the two piece TIN radar screen in the back seat, the plated brass antenna and tin cover and the two cast and hand detailed robots. Artwork on the cast robots is similar to the artwork on the original tin robots, though I added real spring head antennas to my version. The friction mechanism is outstanding with crisp and noisy siren. No touch ups have been done to the car. Each one of the six cars I’ve created bears my signature and company abbreviation (U.A.T.). All six cars were made this year.
I will not make any more of these in order to preserve their value. I’ve already been asked and I will make no exceptions, sorry. I am also offering this as a private listing to insure confidentiality of your purchase. You will not find a better quality version of this toy ANYWHERE. I have delighted private collectors and repeat customers the world over, no disappointments here!
